Atlanta Winter Lawn Information
Park the mower but don’t park your lawn service. There is plenty that needs to be done. Don’t forget to tune the mower and sharpen the blades while it’s resting, because you’re going to need it.
Bermuda and Zoysia
The dormant warm season lawns such as bermuda and zoysia allow an excellent opportunity to spot treat and control winter weeds such as course fescue and perennial rye.
Dormant season application of lime and gypsum are beneficial to your lawn. These materials applied during periods of freeze and thaw cycles will help improve soil conditions allowing for better overall turf development. With dormant season services your lawn will be better equipped to handle the next growing seasons adversities such as heat and drought. NEVER apply lime to centipede without a proper soil analysis.
Centipede and Fescue
Winter applications are aimed at providing root development and weed controls. If pre-emergents are not applied in the fall they can be applied at this time to improve late winter and early spring weed control. We apply pre-emergents in the fall and winter to extend the effectiveness of controls on winter annuals into the early weeks of spring.
Winter applications to fescue are important in providing nutrients and proper weed controls. The first application will consist of post-emergent weed controls to help kill weeds such as dandelions and clovers; and controlled released fertilizers to provide nutrients for good color and deep rooting.
